Bajrang Punia issues clarification after NADA suspends him provisionally

Bajrang Punia clarified rumours of denying samples to NADA with a post. It read, “I want to clarify the news about me being asked to take a dope test!!! I never refused to give my sample to NADA officials, I requested them to first answer me as to what action they took on the expired kit they brought to take my sample, and then take my dope test.” Notably, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) provisionally suspended Tokyo Olympics medallist Bajrang Punia ahead of his Paris Olympics trials. 

China women’s team defeat Indonesia 3-0 to clinch 16th Uber Cup title

China won their 16th Uber Cup when they swept Indonesia 3-0 in the finale of the tournament on Sunday. He Bingjiao secured a 10-21, 21-15, 21-17 win over Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo to complete a 24-0 match record for the hosts at the Thomas and Uber Cup finals in Chengdu. With this, China regained the title after they lost to South Africa two years ago in Thailand. After the match, Chen Yufei said, “I didn’t feel that comfortable although I have played such matches before. I still feel stressed, and maybe my opponent was. I always feel pressured in finals.”

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa said that he wouldn’t call the FIDE Candidates tournament a bad one. He spoke to ESPN, and said, “I don’t think it’s right to call this tournament a bad one.” He added, “It was a good tournament in a way. For the first time in the Candidates, it was good.” The teenage Grandmaster went on to say, “To play alongside my sister [Vaishali Rambabu] is also a great feeling. It was a good experience. Especially, the games were very interesting. There was a lot of play, so I could learn a lot from those games. I think I played much better than my results show.”

World number 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling Madrid Open final to win the title for the first time. In what was a repeat of last year’s final clash, Swiatek defeated Sabalenka 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7). With this, the 22-year-old Polish player secured her third title of the season and became the youngest player to reach 20 titles since Caroline Wozniacki in 2012. After the match, Swiatek said, “Who is going to say that women’s tennis is boring now? Congrats as well to Aryna because we both had an amazing effort today.” 

Real Madrid win 36th La Liga after Girona defeated Barcelona 4-2 

Real Madrid won their 36th La Liga title on Saturday after Girona defeated Barcelona 4-2. Carlo Ancelotti’s side defeated Cadiz and after Barcelona clashed against Girona, they were crowned champions for a record-extending 36th time. After the match, Ancelotti told reporters, We’ve had a spectacular Liga campaign. We’ve made few errors and the advantage is deserved.” Madrid’s striker Joselu said, “We leave our skins out there on the pitch to live moments like today’s. There are young players who are very hungry for titles, veterans who are delighted to be here… and these are special moments.”

Football great Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated Mother’s Day by wishing his girlfriend and mother on social media. The Al-Nassr icon posted a series of pictures on social media, that featured him with his mother Maria Dolores Aveiro. Not only this, but he also uploaded a picture of his partner Rodriguez and him with their kids. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner accompanied the post with a beautiful caption in Portuguese. It read, “Feliz dia da mãe para as melhores do mundo,” which translates to “Happy Mother’s Day to the best in the world.”

Cristiano Ronaldo hits fourth hat-trick of season for Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo hit his fourth hat-trick of the Saudi Pro League season on Saturday as Al-Nassr defeated Al-Wehda 6-0. With this, Ronaldo’s total league goals this season stand at 32, two short of Abderrazak Hamdallah’s tally of 34 from the 2018-19 season. Former Man United star opened his account in the fifth minute of the game after a poor clearance from goalkeeper Monir El Kajouri. His second goal came seven minutes later, with a cross from Marcelo Brozovic. In the early second half, Ronaldo shot from just inside the area to secure his hat-trick in Al-Nassr’s seventh successive win. 

Kylian Mbappe to buy Sergio Ramos’ luxurious mansion in Madrid: Report

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly in talks with Sergio Ramos to buy his $20 million mansion in Madrid. According to Voz Populi, Mbappe has signed an agreement with former PSG teammate Sergio Ramos to purchase his luxury mansion in Spain’s La Moraleja. The mansion was Ramos’ main stay during his tenure with Real Madrid. The reports stated that Ramos wasn’t willing to sell the Madrid house but after a few reported contacts between Mbappe’s agent and his mother Fayza Lamari, he changed his mind.
