Bangladesh will not risk Shoriful Islam’s body for four county matches. Nafees didn’t dress up the logic. Shoriful plays across all three formats, and asking him to absorb four County Championship matches so soon after a hamstring tear was too big a gamble with Bangladesh’s next assignments closing in. The board decided training at home carried less risk than four rounds in England.
The injury itself was a Grade 1 strain in the left hamstring, picked up on the tour of Zimbabwe. It ruled him out of the first Test against Australia in Darwin, and though he passed a fitness test less than two weeks later and flew out to rejoin the squad, the board isn’t treating that recovery as finished business.
