IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 3 Highlights: Sarfaraz Khan’s unbeaten 70 help put 231/3; India trail by 125 runs

On day three of the first Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Indian spinners dismissed the highly accomplished New Zealand batting lineup for 402 runs in their first innings. After bundling out India for mere 46 runs, their lowest total in Tests at home, the spinning duo consisting of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took six wickets together while Mohammed Siraj got two whereas R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah took one each.

For the unversed, after winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first in overcast conditions on day two with three spinners in their playing XI after Day 1’s play was completely washed out due to rain. Within the first 10 overs itself, India lost the wickets of captain Rohit Sharma (2), Virat Kohli (0), and Sarfaraz Khan (0) before Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant tried to resurrect their innings.

However, none of the batters could make the most of their chances with India getting bundled out for 46 and Matt Henry picked up a five-wicket haul for New Zealand, while Will O’Rourke took four wickets. After that New Zealand posted 180/3 and added 222 runs to their overnight score, thus posting 402 runs in 91.3 overs.
