A fan breached security and invaded the field to touch Ruturaj Gaikwad’s feet during a Duleep Trophy match. Incidents of fans breaching the security and invading field play in cricket matches have become more common than ever. Time and again fans of superstars including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have entered field to meet their favourite cricketers. One such similar incident took place in a domestic match, where a pitch invader entered the field to meet his favourite cricketer, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad is representing India C in the Duleep Trophy, and the side is currently clashing against India D in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. On the second day of the match, a fan entered the ground and was seen running up to the 27-year-old cricketer and touching his feet. The pictures of the incident went viral on social media in no time. While the incident shows how cricketers are followed in the country, it certainly raises questions about their security.
India’s domestic ace Baba Indrajith showcased his prowess and slammed 72 runs in India C’s first innings. Owing to his well-played knock, the side came up with a score of 168 against India D in the ongoing match of Duleep Trophy 2024. Indrajith came to bat when India C were reduced to 43/4. Indrajith played his 76th First Class match as India C locked horns with India D, and has recorded 5,350 runs. The knock against India D recorded to be his 28th FC fifty. Indrajith’s knock earned him praise from India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took to X and lauded him for his knock. Ashwin tweeted, “Very well done to @IndrajithBaba on a fantastic innings today. Top quality player and an even better individual, good things will happen. Hang in there.”
