Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) announced the first Bihar Divisional Esports Championship for state esports athletes, which is scheduled to start on August 14. The grassroots-level esports tournament will involve 38 districts, which have been grouped into nine divisions, featuring four gaming titles, including BGMI, FC24, RC24, and chess. The competition will be exclusively for esports players from the state of Bihar in India. Registration for the event starts from August 1 on the UNIV app.

BGMI is one of the most popular esports titles in India and offers an exciting battle-royale gaming experience on mobile devices. Players can enjoy this multiplayer game solo, duo, or with a four-man squad.
FC 24, also known as EA Sports FC 24, is the rebranded version of the popular football video game series previously known as FIFA, developed by EA Sports. Following the end of EA’s partnership with FIFA, the game continues to deliver the same high-quality football simulation experience, featuring realistic graphics, player animations, and gameplay mechanics.
Real Cricket 24, aka RC 24, is a cricket simulation mobile game developed by Nautilus Mobile. The game features a wide range of modes, including tournaments, leagues, and challenges. Players can enjoy authentic gameplay with detailed graphics, various cricketing shots, and realistic ball physics.
Chess.com is a popular online platform where users can play chess games against opponents from around the world. The platform offers various features, including live and correspondence games, puzzles, lessons, and tournaments.
How to register for the Bihar Divisional Esports Championship?
Players from the Bihar state can register for the Bihar Divisional Esports Championship on the UNIV app from August 1 to 10.
In a video announcement, Ravindra Shankaran, the Director General and CEO of BSSA unveiled the upcoming Divisional Esports Championship. The initiative aims to promote esports in Bihar and encourage participation in the Esports Olympics.
“We want the youth of Bihar to represent the Indian team in the upcoming Esports Olympics. With this aim in mind, we are organizing the first Divisional Esports Championship in August. Details will be available on the official BSSA website and our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn,” Shankaran stated.
“A Medal is a Medal”: BSSA CEO on Esports Olympics
Shankaran further expressed his support for esports, highlighting the significance of the Esports Olympics and encouraging Bihar’s youth to participate and practice. The BSSA aims to train young esports enthusiasts to join the Indian contingent.
“A medal is a medal, whether it comes from Kabaddi or esports. Since esports is now recognized by the Olympics, we are motivating and training our youngsters for the Olympics, so that Indian players can compete in the Olympic Games for esports. Let’s come together and participate in the Divisional tournament to provide selected candidates with better opportunities in the future,” he added.
About Olympic Esports Series
The Olympic Esports Series is an annual event organized by the International Olympic Committee, featuring various virtual sports and video games. Although esports weren’t traditionally seen as sports, the IOC has shown interest since 2007. The series started with an online-only event in 2021, and the first in-person edition took place in Singapore in June 2023. A second edition is scheduled for 2024.
