Indian wicketkeeper-batter and T20 World Cup 2024 winner Rishabh Pant is set to leave Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Pant returned to top-flight action after a long absence caused by his horrific in December 2022 in this Indian Premier League. Based on his IPL performance, Pant was picked for the World Cup where he put forth a few valuable innings and was vital in the victorious campaign.
On Saturday, the Capitals stunned the cricketing world as Aussie legend Ricky Ponting announced his departure from the franchise after seven years. This significant change has reportedly played a crucial role in Rishabh Pant leaving the franchise as he shared a close bond with Ponting.
Speaking about Ricky Ponting’s exit, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly slammed the former Australian skipper for not making massive improvements to the Capitals. Ganguly said, “Let me give you some news. Ricky Ponting won’t be the DC coach anymore. Geoffrey Boycott is absolutely right! Ponting has not taken DC forward in these seven years. You need to talk to the management. I would suggest looking at Indian options for the coach.”
“Why not me? Let’s see if I can do it or not. We need to rope in some new players. I wanted to bring in England’s new star Jamie Smith for DC’s SA20 side (Pretoria Capitals). He was even ready to come in, but then England will be busy for their India tour at that time,” Ganguly added.
