What will happen if India vs England semi-final of T20 World Cup 2024 gets washed out?

On Thursday, June 27, inaugural champions India and reigning champions England will take on each other in the second semifinal of the  T20 World Cup 2024  at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. While the Men in Blue finished at the top of the Group 1 standings in the Super 8 stage, England ended up at second place after South Africa in the Group 2 of Super 8 stage.

Although the upcoming match in the T20 World Cup 2024 will be a repeat of the 2022 World Cup where the Men in Blue registered a 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide. But in the ongoing edition, the inaugural champions of the tournament are in their prime form, yet to lose a match. But with rain possibilities in the Caribbean, what will happen if the all-important match gets washed out?

What will happen if India vs England gets washed out?

The rules for both T20 World Cup 2024 matches are contrasting as India versus England does not have a reserve day. However, this is not the case for the first semifinal where South Africa will take on Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

As there is just a day’s gap between the second semifinal and the finale day, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has opted out of the reserve day policy. But it has been given extra 250 minutes reserved for the match. With rain predictions in the coming days, it is highly likely that the match gets washed out.

If so be it, India will advance into the final by the virtue of higher group standings. Similarly, if the South Africa versus Afghanistan T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal gets washed out and no game possible even on the reserve day, South Africa, who finished as higher ranked than Afghanistan, will qualify for the final.
