The All England Club on Wednesday, June 19 announced wildcard list for the upcoming Wimbledon 2024. In a shocking turn, the seven players who were named in the Gentlemen’s Singles, hail from Great Britain. This implies that the likes of Dominic Thiem has not been invited to play his final season at the grass court major.
Apart from this, Brit Emma Raducanu, who missed the 2024 Paris Olympics berth due to a comparatively lower rank, have been named in the Ladies Singles, along with the likes of Naomi Osaka and Carolina Wozniacki. Raducanu, recently climbed to World No. 165 after reaching the semifinals of the Rothesay Open in Nottingham.
Furthermore, Osaka, who is a four-time major winner, returns to Wimbledon since 2019. On the other hand, Carlina Wozniacki of Denmark, who announced retirement in 2020 but returned to tennis in June last, has also been named in the wildcard list.
