French forward Kylian Mbappe is set to miss the entire group stage of the Euro 2 024 after breaking his nose in a collision during the clash against Austria. Les Bleus registered a 1-0 win after Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber scored an own goal. The French dominated possession through most of the contest but Austria had a few great chances of their own.
During this clash, Mbappe was involved in a collision with Austria and RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danso in the second half as the new Real Madrid star head-butted into the defender’s shoulder. The France captain was substituted and then taken to the hospital.

Though the French Football Federation confirmed that no serious harm was caused to Mbappe, the former Paris Saint Germain star would not undergo surgery. But according to the French publication RTL, a source claimed that the 25-year-old could be out for around 15 days, ruling him out until the quarter-final phase of Euro 2024.

After the Austria game, the FFF president, Philippe Diallo spoke about how he hasn’t been ruled out of the tournament. In the press conference, he said, “Concerning his participation in the rest of the tournament, it is a bit premature to decide that. The news coming from the doctors is more positive than not and luckily he doesn’t need surgery which would rule him out completely for the rest of the tournament.”
“They have tried to limit the consequences of the impact,” Diallo said. “It happened last night and there is no immediate surgical intervention right now. We will wait and see during the day [Tuesday]. We will see exactly what happens over the next day or two.”
